KICKSTARTER; Fund and follow creativity

I should start by stating that I am a sucker for any and all things KickStarter. As with Etsy I'm always somewhat surprised that people have not heard of KickStarter

KickStarter is a funding platform (crowd-funding) for creative ideas; these range from Art to Dance to Food to Photography and Technology - or simply stated; 'Fund & Follow Creativity'. I think it is genius and give people a platform to realise their dreams, people that might've otherwise not been able to get funding or even a chance to showcase their product or idea.

I'm not going to go into detail, but there are many a heart-warming and deserving story to be told of an individual or small group of people's determination to succeed and have their product / dream become a reality.

Probably THE biggest success story to date is that of the now infamous Pebble Watch.

The goal was a mere $100'000, however the Pebble Watch KickStarter story went viral and yes people, they now have over $10 million pledged. Success story I'd say :-)

"Pebble is a customizable watch. Download new watchfaces, use sports and fitness apps, get notifications from your phone." KickStarter page

Another success story that got a lot of mileage from their KickStarter campaign; Ouya.

With a goal just short of $1 million, they've ended up with over $8 million. News of Ouya went viral and $2 million was pledged on DAY ONE. Impressive stuff!

"Cracking open the last closed platform: the TV. A beautiful, affordable console -- built on Android, by the creator of Jambox." KickStarter page

Another project I found quite interesting is The Olympic City.

This is a rather interesting photography project that looks at previous Olympic hosting cities and what happened to them and the various venues after the Olympics. Happy to see that they've reached their goal.

"A photography project that looks at former host cities of the Olympic Games, and what happens to a city after the Olympics are gone." KickStarter page

These are a very small representation of the many, many interesting, brave, adventurous, daring, beautiful and clever projects on KickStarter. Put some time aside and have a look for yourself.
